**Top Story** The US government has ordered Anthropic, a leading AI company, to restrict access to its most advanced models for foreign entities, citing national security concerns. This move has significant implications for the development of AI globally, as it may limit the ability of researchers and developers outside the US to access cutting-edge AI technology. The restriction may also lead to a brain drain, as top AI talent may be forced to relocate to the US to work on advanced AI projects. Furthermore, this decision may accelerate the development of AI capabilities in other countries, as they may feel compelled to develop their own AI technologies to remain competitive. The US government's move is likely to have far-reaching consequences for the AI industry, and developers should be aware of the potential impact on their work. **AI Models & Research** The use of AI to create evidence in multiple cases is a disturbing trend that has come to light, with a police officer being investigated for using AI to generate evidence. This highlights the need for developers to consider the ethical implications of their work and ensure that AI systems are designed and used in a responsible and transparent manner. The development of AI systems that can generate convincing evidence raises important questions about the reliability and trustworthiness of such evidence, and developers must prioritize the development of AI systems that are fair, transparent, and accountable. Additionally, the introduction of durable storage options for Amazon ElastiCache for Valkey by AWS is a significant development, as it enables reliable data retention across failures and expands support beyond caching to persistent workloads, allowing developers to build more robust and reliable AI systems. **Developer Tools & Frameworks** The Pyodide 314.0 release announcement includes news that Python packages built for Pyodide can now be published to PyPI, allowing developers to easily distribute and install packages for use with Pyodide. This development is significant, as it enables developers to create and share packages that can be used with Pyodide, making it easier to build and deploy AI applications. The introduction of Paca, a lightweight Jira alternative for human-AI collaboration, is also noteworthy, as it provides a customizable platform for humans and AI agents to work together on planning sprints and assigning tasks. Furthermore, the release of AWS's durable storage option for ElastiCache for Valkey enables developers to build more robust and reliable AI systems, with new options that prioritize either minimizing latency or maximizing throughput. **Industry & Business** Meta has reportedly begun to unwind its $2 billion Manus deal after Beijing ordered the deal reversed, highlighting the complex and often fraught nature of international business deals in the tech industry. This development is significant, as it demonstrates the challenges that companies face when navigating complex regulatory environments and geopolitical tensions. In another development, an AI OSS tool repo was archived overnight after raising $7.3 million in seed funding, raising questions about the sustainability and viability of open-source AI projects. Meanwhile, Argentina has legalized "non-human companies", a move that has been described as a dystopian turn, and which may have significant implications for the development of AI and automation in the country. **Worth Watching** The debate over India's AI future is worth watching, as the country's tech leaders consider the implications of the Anthropic episode for India's AI ambitions. The introduction of Paca, a lightweight Jira alternative for human-AI collaboration, is also an interesting development, as it provides a customizable platform for humans and AI agents to work together on planning sprints and assigning tasks. Additionally, the use of AI to create evidence in multiple cases is a disturbing trend that highlights the need for developers to prioritize the development of AI systems that are fair, transparent, and accountable, and for regulators to establish clear guidelines and regulations for the use of AI in law enforcement and other critical areas.

Publishing WASM wheels to PyPI for use with Pyodide

The Pyodide 314.0 release announcement (via Hacker News ) includes news I've been looking forward to for a long time: You can now publish Python packages built for Pyodide (or any Python runtime compatible with the PyEmscripten platform defined in PEP 783 ) directly to PyPI and install them at runtime. Previously, the Pyodide maintainers had to maintain, build, and host over 300 packages ourselves.
